Say Goodbye To Minimalist Running, Say Hello To The 2014 Hoka One One

It was back in 2009 when minimalist running became a topic of real interest, and in 2011 and 2012, the trend became insanely popular throughout the running community. BAREFOOT-RUNNING-NOBarefoot running shoes sales reached their peak in 2012, but in the beginning of 2013, saw a 13% decrease – a number that continued to grow throughout the year.

This year, the trend in running shoe design took a dramatic turn and shifted to a much more cushioned feel. I have always been a big fan of maximum stability, so this switch does not surprise me and I’m happy to see this style become more readily available from many different brands in the coming seasons. That being said, some brands have this design on lock more than others.

HOKE-ONE-ONEMeet the 2014 Hoka One One Running Shoes: one of the most comfortable long distance running shoes on the market. Unlike other brands who are just now picking up on this thicker design for their upcoming collections, Hoka has always stuck with this style, making them the experts who are finally getting their deserved recognition . While their earlier models weren’t the most attractive shoes on the market, the 2014 collection features a significantly improved appearance as well as a lighter feel. They are so amazing, in fact, that multiple other brands are attempting to emulate their design.

I say the the Hokas are great “long distance” running shoes because the thickness of the midsole isn’t necessarily needed for shorter runs where the strain is less severe. That being said, they are of course just as comfortable no matter what distance you’re running.

The volume of the Hoka’s midsole is designed to absorb shock and reduce fatigue in the runner’s feet, legs, and core. The Meta-Rocker is designed for active recovery a guided foot gait cycle. And finally, the Active Foot Frame allows the foot to sink into the shoe for the feel of a customized fit. We are excited to announce that we’re carrying both men’s and women’s styles of the Conquest and Stinson Trail running shoes on mpgear.com (specs are available below).
